The Southern Nevada Golf Association now administers more than 60 event days each year including USGA qualifiers, Nevada State Championships, Regional Championships, the Medalist Series, casual Individual and Partner competitions for every golfer thru the SNGA Tour, fun social Member Days events and the Las Vegas World Amateur Championship to promote Las Vegas as a golf destination.

Championship Points Tables

All SNGA Members earn Player of the Year points in their respective divisions.  Every competitor recieves points for participation in the event, and those scoring in the top 15 in any event earn points based on finish.

10/28/13 - McInerney Wins Second Major Regional Title, White Tops Net Division

With most of the UNLV Men's Team playing in the Las Vegas City Amateur, it was little surprise that the final pairing of the day in the scratch division included three UNLV teammates who were hoping to topple first round leader Brandon Bauman.

10/28/13 - Carpendale and Johnson Capture Respective Senior and Super Senior Titles

Gary Carpendale, 54, shot a 2-under 73-69--142 to win the Las Vegas City Senior Amateur title at Las Vegas Golf Club by 3-strokes over Steve Paulsen while the net leaderboards were topped by Rick Lukas and Bill Scheer.

10/27/13 - Middle School Prodigy Takes Home State Women’s Title

Pate, 13, is quickly making a habit out of turning the heads of fellow golfers.  She started the week winning the Nevada State Women's Golf Association Championship, then decided to play against the men at the Las Vegas City Amateur Championship.

10/14/13 - SNGA Tour Partner Series Takes On Badlands

The team of Rick Lukas and Suzanne Conner took top honors in Flight 2 moving into the top 6 in the SNGA Tour Partner Series Points race while the team of Jim Cail and Patrick Reis toppef the leaderboard in Flight 2.

10/10/13 - Southwick and Toman Top Flights at Las Vegas National

John Toman shot an impressive net 66 to win Flight 2 while Richard Southwick took top honors in Flight 1 in the SNGA Tour Individual Series event held at Las Vegas National.

08/31/13 - Schedule of 2014 PGA/USGA Rules of Golf Workshops Announced

In 2014, there will be 21 workshops throughout the country conducted jointly by the USGA and PGA of America.  Online registration at begins Tuesday, October 22, 2013 at 6 a.m. Pacific Time.   Phone-in registration begins Monday, October 28, 2013 at 6 a.m. Pacific Time

08/14/13 - Duel In The Desert

It took all 36 holes of the final match at TPC Las Vegas, but in the end all Zane Thomas, 19, needed was a par to add his name to the Nevada State Match Play perpetual trophy.

08/13/13 - Exber Qualifies for USGA Senior Amateur

Brady Exber of Las Vegas, Nev. shot a 2-under par 70 in regulation then won the first playoff hole against Steve Johnson of Las Vegas, Nev. to qualify to play in the USGA Senior Amateur Championship, September 21 - 26 at Wade Hampton Golf Club in Cashiers, N.C.

08/04/13 - Nothing But Deck!  Montgomery Makes Pacific Coast Amateur Memorable

The championship this year, played at Capilano Golf & Country Club in West Vancouver, British Columbia, lacked some of the excitement but two SNGA members made the event memorable (includes video).

08/04/13 - Thomas Conquers Cascata for Second Win

A rising sophomore on the UNLV Golf Team, Zane Thomas posted an impressive  2-under par 71-71--142 besting his nearest competitor by 13-strokes.  Titles were also awarded in Net, Senior and Super Senior contests.

07/14/13 - Golf Canada Extends Invite to Top SNGA Golfers

The SNGA has selected Eric Fitzsimmons, the leading point earner this year on the SNGA Performance Points list as well as Yuki Kato, recent winner of the Southern Nevada Amateur, to be its representatives.

07/14/13 - Are Distance Measuring Devices Legal in Golf Competitions

The use of distance-measuring devices during a stipulated round remains contrary to the Rules of Golf – the penalty being disqualification under Rule 14-3 (Artificial Devices, Unusual Equipment and Unusual Use of Equipment). However, since January 2006, a Committee can permit the use of such devices via a Local Rule.

07/12/13 - Horodesky Claims 61st Nevada State Amateur Title

In the end, Gregory Horodesky, 36, of Las Vegas, Nev. was able to hold on to capture his first major title shooting a 5-over par 73-73-75--221 on the 7,125-yard, par-72 layout.  There were five players tied for second just 2-strokes off the pace. Among that pack was two time winner and Southern Nevada Golf Hall of Famer Brady Exber.

06/13/13 - Montgomery earns berth in U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship

Taylor Montgomery, 18, of Henderson, Nev. earned the lone qualifier spot at the U.S. Amateur Public Links Sectional qualifier held at Silverstone Golf Course.

06/04/13 - Kato Captures Southern Nevada Am Title in Playoff; Boyer Tops Net Division

Yuki Kato, a junior who plays golf for the Xavier University Musketeers, defeated collegiate rival Scott Cahill, a sophomore who plays for the Miami (of Ohio) Redhawks with a birdie on the first playoff hole. Reigning Senior Amateur Net Player of the Year Chris Boyer of Henderson, Nev. captured the top spot in the Net Division.

05/14/13 - Ernst Survives Playoff to Keep US Open Dreams Alive

At the beginning of the US Open local qualifier at TPC Summerlin, there were 62 professionals and 34 amateur golfers who were among the record-setting 9,860 total entrants who signed up for their chance to play for a national championship.  At the end of the day, only six were successful in keeping their dreams alive.

04/28/13 - SNGA Returns to Mesquite for Three Days of Competition

Rule 3-5 of the USGA Handicap System and the new SNGA Handicap policy was put into action for the first time.

04/23/13 - Scolari Tops Medalists at Spanish Trail

Jon Scolari fired a 4-under par 70-70--140 to win the Open Division while James Hill captured the top senior spot.

04/21/13 - UNLV’s Thomas Claims Clark County Amateur Title; Rada Tops Net Leaderboard

UNLV freshman Zane Thomas of Las Vegas, Nev. topped the leaderboard finishing the 36-hole contest at 9-under 68-67--135; Rada, who carried a 1.6 USGA Handicap Index, had 2 net eagles and 3 net birdies to come from behind an win the net contest at 3-under par 76-67--141.

04/19/13 - Acker crowned top Senior; Lindsay Top Super Senior at Clark County Senior Amateur

Don Lindsay, a Boulder City snowbird who hails from Victoria, BC, captured the title of best Super Senior while Frank Acker topped the Senior field.

04/16/13 - WSNGA Announces SNV Women’s Amateur & Silver Cup Qualifier

The 2013 Southern Nevada Women's Amateur will be held at the Paiute Golf Resort Wolf Course on June 24 and 25.  The cost is $110 per player which includes two days of green fees, prize fund and the awards luncheon. This event also serves as the qualifier for the prestigious Silver Cup.

04/05/13 - Close Finishes at 4th SNGA Tour Partner Series Event

The fourth event on the SNGA Tour Partner Series was contested on the Desert layout at Primm Valley Golf Course with teams earning points toward the season ending Tour Championship at TPC Summerlin.

03/29/13 - 2013 SNGA Tour Visits Eagle Crest

The SNGA Tour Individual Series played Eagle Crest Golf Course, a par-60, 4,067-yard Executive Course at Sun City Summerlin and proved to be one of the most challenging courses on the Tour to date.

03/28/13 - Teams Take to Boulder City For Annual Four-Ball Contest

Eric Fitzsimmons scored a 1-under par to lead his team to a gross score of  10-under par 70-64--134 for the top spot.  While Daniel Rinaldi and Jason Elmore bested their nearest competitors in the Net division with a 36-hole 4-ball team total of 7-under par 65-68--133

03/17/13 - Spoor and Boggs Win Flights at Mountain Falls

The Southern Nevada Golf Association returned to Pahrump for the first time in several years with its new SNGA Tour Individual Series playing Mountain Falls Golf Club.

03/10/13 - Scolari Laps Field In Summerlin Amateur Win

Jon Scolari lapped the Scratch/Medalist field with a 2-under par 74-68--172, besting his nearest competitor by an astounding 10-strokes.  Read More for summary of Net, Senior and Super Senior Contests.

02/27/13 - SNGA Clarifies Rules Regarding Distance Measuring Devices

A local rule needs to be in effect at any event in order for a Distance Measuring Devices to be allowed.  Unfortunately with the proliferation of new applications and the complexity of many multi-function devices, creating a viable list of list of what does and does not conform (and is therefore allowable) is not realistic.

02/17/13 - Kranz Captures Inaugural World Am Title

Ken Kranz, 61, of Cheyenne, Wyo. captured the title of Grand Champion at the Inaugural Las Vegas World Amateur Championship with a 5-under par net total of 77-73-71-66--287.  Kranz holds a 6.3 USGA Handicap Index.  The 72-hole flighted net event, was held over four courses including Paiute Golf Resort, Royal Links, TPC Las Vegas and Spanish Trail, and had competitors from across the U.S. and Canada. 

09/10/12 - SNGA Retains 2012 Cobb-Whalen Cup

The biennial battle for statewide bragging rights took place September 9-10 at Thunder Canyon Country Club in Reno, Nev. as 12 net players representing the Northern Nevada Golf Association attempted to wrestle the title away from the defending team of 12 from the Southern Nevada Golf Association.

Pacific Coast Amateur Team Points

The 49th Pacific Coast Amateur Championship will be held July 28-31 at Eugene Country Club in Eugene, OR and the SNGA will once again field a team representing the top players on the Scratch/Medalist Points List.

Oliver Cup Points

The Oliver Cup is a biannual Ryder Cup style competition pitting the top 12 seniors from the SNGA against a Northern Nevada GA team. Teams are selected based on points earned over a 2-year period.

The Cobb-Whalen Cup is a Ryder Cup style event with 12 Net Players representing the SNGA taking on a team from Northern Nevada with each team selected based on points earned in tournaments over a 2-year period.
